Nice track down through the photo (if that makes sense). I quite enjoyed doing this one as it gave me a chance to use a pic that hadn’t really fitted elsewhere, and like you, it was a darkness shot. Actually it wasn’t that dark at the time but it came out dark
Me too, I felt this one was too nice to get buried in a generic Kyoto gallery.
Loved your eerie shot
such elegant design!
That’s Japan for you
What a beautiful capture Madhu – I wish we had lanterns like these to light up NZ’s streets.
I wish we had lanterns period! Glad you like it Jo
Our street lights are soooooo modern and boring. Maybe I should start campaigning here for lamps like these. Our council wastes money on sillier things.
Be thankful Jo…we don’t even have pavements to light up in some places
Shall not go into what our council does with ‘our’ money!
Katikati has one of the highest levels of rates in the country. I know people who live in very expensive housing in expensive areas paying less than I do…yet our council is so in debt it is crazy. Maybe i should run for office one day…nah. The bureaucracy would just make me crazy.
What is it with councils and wasteful spending in the wrong areas. Do they go to school before they get elected to learn how best to do that ???/
Probably
Hi,
I love the lights, gives a wonderful effect, great photo.
Thank you Mags. One of my favourites too, and I don’t have too many in my archives
I like this. Just a random street scene. I always like it when pictures capture the “everydayness” of a place.
Thank you Juliann.
I do too, and feel I am more aware of these ‘streetscapes’ since i started blogging
Wish you a pleasant weekend … too – thanks for bringing glittery night light into my evening with snow storm. Great shot.
You are most welcome Viveka…thank YOU

Aah Kate, thank you so much
Apologies for my long absence from your site. i hate rushing through your posts and keep them open in a tab for ‘later’ and never get to them in the end! Shall catch up soon, I promise
Love Japanese lanterns! Beautiful shot!
Thanks Amy

I love Kyoto, and this photo captures the arcade perfectly, Madhu!
Have read your lovely posts on Kyoto Cathy. Wish we had more time there. Would love to return with R someday.
Madhu, I would love to explore a lot more of Japan. All I had was a four day break from Korea, and Kyoto was all I had time for. Would love to live and work there for about a year! I think there would be so much to see and do!
Happy weekend to you too, Madhu. Great pic for the theme.
Thanks AD
I love the lantern lights. How nice they dressed them up this way.
Yes, Gion was such an atmospheric part of town!
Wow, beautiful shot!!!
Thank you Rexlin
Lovely – I like the red lights at the end of the walk!
Thank you TRS
And illuminating in that we get so see a slice of suburban life in Kyoto, with the kids hanging out, still getting about on their bikes …
Thanks Meredith…..it is such a joy watching kids hanging out anywhere
Beautiful!!!!

I love this composition, Madhu.
Thank you Naomi
I think there is a long long tradition of lanterns, candles, glowing little hot air balloons, isn’t it?
I think so Frizz. These had electric bulbs inside of course.
