Moonlight. Mushy 60’s music. The company of a good man in the midst of lovely strangers. Chilled beer on the candle lit steps of a restaurant named after a Phaeronic necropolis, in the hippostyle hall of an ancient Roman Palace comprising the heart of a beautiful Balkan city. All watched over by Thutmosis’ inscrutable Sphinx.
One of my favourite things to do of an evening in Split.

Thank you Rabirius. Wishing you a happy weekend!
Thanks. I wish you a happy weekend too!
One foot firmly planted in the present, and another immersed in the past. In the company of strangers and one good man.
Thank you for allowing us to sit with you! Lisa
It was a special experience Lisa. And free (except for the optional beer) 🙂 Thank you for your virtual company dear friend. Have a fabulous day!
Meditative and thought provoking….
Appreciate your reading Sally. Many thanks 🙂
Perfect Madhu, I don’t think you can create ambience, it has to evolve. Happy days dear friend 🙂
Happy days to you too dearest Gilly 🙂
A Spalato ho trascorso un giorno tempo fa, città molto bella in cui non ho resistito e salire il campanile. La sera deve essere tutta una altra cosa.

Glad you enjoyed this Paolo. I thought that ambience was hard to beat 🙂
Love the photo of the rooftops you linked to. Is it from the bell tower?
Si son salito sin lassù ed è stata una grande gioia 🙂
Glad you got to experience it 🙂
Love this take on ambience, Madhu…great quote!
Thank you Sue. Not the greatest image, but the ambience was unbeatable 🙂
I’m sure!
Will read soon and revert. 🙏🏼💕
That kind of evening and atmosphere can never be planned, which makes it all the more special. Kind of how I felt at a recent lunch spot in Cuba; I could never have anticipated the delight, which made it even more delightful!
You are so right Lex. I can imagine Cuba throwing up such unexpected delights. Can’t wait to experience it myself.
Dear Lex, could you please release my comment from your spam folder? I seem to get blacklisted by some blogs everytime I return after a long absence!
It doesn’t seem to be in there, but I’ll check again! Nice to see you back!
Thanks for taking us with you on that pleasant evening.
Much belated thanks for your delightful company dear Ian 🙂
