Moonlight. Mushy 60’s music. The company of a good man in the midst of lovely strangers. Chilled beer on the candle lit steps of a restaurant named after a Phaeronic necropolis, in the hippostyle hall of an ancient Roman Palace comprising the heart of a beautiful Balkan city. All watched over by Thutmosis’ inscrutable Sphinx.
One of my favourite things to do of an evening in Split.

Madhu, what a wonderful teaser from a city I’ve been hoping to visit for a very long time. I hope things are looking up for your dear brother-in-law, and that your father-in-law is recovering well.
Much belated thanks dear James. Father in law – that superman! – is fine. The brother in law is still on a ventilator, but back home and showing signs of improving. It’ll be a blessing if he can get off the ventilator and on to oxygen support. Fingers crossed.
Shoot. Just when I’d ruled out a trip to Split this year, you had to go and make it enticing again.
Ha ha, I preferred Split to Dubrovnik, although Zadar was my favourite, even with the least visual appeal of the three. Posts coming up once I sort through my enormous backlog. Now off to check which part of the world you are currently in…..
Juliann, think your spam folder swallowed my comment on your Uros islands post 😦
Happy 2017.
Good posts, beautiful blog.
Congratulations.
Welcome to see my creations:

Thank you very much Alozade! And much apologies for the belated response.
Thanks. You’r welcome my friend 🍁 🍁
Unbelievably tranquil for a night in Split. A lovely capture transmitting serenity. Thank you for sharing, Madhu.
Thank you Paula. I bet you would have done wonders in that low light 🙂
I don’t know 😀 I never felt comfortable in Split.
I do 🙂 I preferred it to Dubrovnik. Not as beautiful, but more real.
🙂 I believe you. Today’s Dubrovnik has nothing to do with Dubrovnik in which I grew up, but it is of course hard to get a real image of a place just by visiting it. One has to live to know.
I agree. I am speaking from a visitor’s perspective. Dubrovnik felt like a museum…not enough locals for my liking. I bet it was different when you lived there.
How wonderful to find you here, Madhu! A city I’ve heard mixed reports of but I’d love to use it as a base for some of those islands. I can feel that lovely vibe. 🙂 Hope life is improving for you, hon.
Much improved, thank you Jo. The BIL is back home, although still on a portable ventilator. Picking up my schedule seems harder than I anticipated….sat all day today staring at my screen determined to put out something 🙂 Hope all well with you.
Hiya darlin 🙂 🙂 I just this second saw you in the Reader!
Beautiful post, Awesome pic.
Thank you Rupam. Have you been to Tanjavur?
Welcome, Not yet
where’s the man, where’s the sphinx? cool post, cool ambience, very cool photo!
Ha ha, the sphinx is the black blob at centre left. The man is standing next to me and hasn’t yet moved to those steps on the right. Should have got him to dress up in gladiator togs for effect, a la Sheik Badfish 😀
Badfish, you might want to release my comments from your spam folder when you have the time. Hope all’s well. Happy travels and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Ah! A thought perhaps for a friend who feels happy for you and is transported to the seat beside you, sipping a nimbusoda!
Ashu, you don’t drink? What kind of Mangi ‘Porbu’ are you? 😜
That sounds so lovely.
Alison
It was indeed Alison 🙂
