What is travel, really, other than a collage of awesome places and experiences?

Monumental attractions and magnificent landscapes certainly fuel my wanderlust. They are popular for a reason. And it is still possible to enjoy the most touristy with a bit of planning.

But places that are purely aesthetic bore me beyond a point. Travel, for me, is all about connections. With the people of a place, with their cultures, stories and layered histories.

I seek to experience the food, the traditions, the strangely familiar nuances beneath the intriguingly foreign.
