A Shimmery Sunset & Thoughts Of Home

Watching the sun slip quietly behind the trees in this beach resort we have escaped to for R’s birthday (and our anniversary), it seems like an anticlimax to not have the sea reflect the explosion of copper and gold that is so typical of a spectacular west coast sunset. I realise now, how much I took that drama of days end at my doorstep for granted, and how few photos I have to remember them by, when my tenuous memory begins to fade. Shall have to remedy that on my next visit ‘home’.

For now, without wasting too much of our ‘together’ time, I leave you with a snapshot of the Nile at sunset. Some of my favourite photos of sunsets on the Nile are here & on the Caldera in Santorini here & here

Until next time happy travels………no matter where life takes you!

  1. How lovely. And I am wondering how many of us travelling people have anniversaries this month? (Ours is this week). Many congratulations on the birthday, anniversary, and beautiful photo.

  2. Isn’t it interesting how we don’t notice the things close to home, or at least we often don’t find them photo-worthy. We think we can take pictures anytime, we can see them with our own eyes anytime. Thus I can relate to what you say: “I realise now, how much I took that drama of days end at my doorstep for granted, and how few photos I have to remember them by, when my tenuous memory begins to fade.”

Anyway, sunsets on the Nile are lovely. I spent a number of times on a felucca at sunset there. Your photo is lovely, especially with the local fishermen and the pink reflection on the water.

Have a fun anniversary (& happy birthday to R)!

    1. We do, don’t we? I just had to walk across our yard to the river to witness the most spectacular sunsets and never thought to click pictures!!! Thank you Cathy πŸ™‚

  3. Tried for the Santorini shots because I loved that island and your photos are always so beautiful, but link came up on Safari Page Not Found.
    Just fyi, Madhu —

  4. This trip is a special occasion for you. Enjoy. Your collection of sunset photos are beautiful memories. Photographers/bloggers from all over the world sharing stunning sunsets…same sun. It’s uplifting.

    1. I left this out of the original post because I didn’t like it then. Seems OK now! Thank you so much Naomi πŸ™‚

  5. From a different point of view. I love how the setting sun is reflected on the water. Very quiet and peaceful to look at and feel.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  6. such a serene soft scene, just the figures and ripples on the pink and blue shimmer of the water, totally gorgeous …and happy anniversary!

  7. congratulations to your anniversary – “this beach resort we have escaped to for R’s birthday (and our anniversary), it seems like an anticlimax…” = an interesting clever statement!

  8. Lovely shot of the rich, warm sunset and the fisherman! Very peaceful photo.
Happy Anniversary and Birthday for R. Our anniversary was this month – we honeymooned in Santorini, and the breathtaking, romantic sunsets vividly stand out in our memory. Thanks for sharing your sunsets.

  9. Happy anniversary Madhu, and wow to 37 years! That’s quite an achievement! I hope you get some lovely sunsets during your trip and manage to get some shots from home some time. I sometimes wonder why I don’t have photos of certain things, places I’m so familiar with from my past, but hopefully those memories will always be with you. I believe that when you get into your dotage its the longer ago memories that are the clearest, so you might surprise yourself!

  10. Thank goodness for cameras because my memory is like a fish! That’s why I also write, so I don’t forget the fleeting moments!

I can feel the tranquility and calm and “togetherness” in this photo! Beautifully captured, Madhu!

  11. Awwww your husband married you on his birthday … how romantic of him – no way he will ever forget the date of your anniversary … sorry I am in a naughty mood today πŸ˜€
