Memorial to Tupaq Amaru II and his followers in the Plaza: Tupaq Amaru I, the last Inca was executed by beheading in the Plaza de Armas in 1572. His great grandson Tupaq Amaru II, returned from exile to lead a rebellion and was executed in an even more cruel manner after witnessing the killing of his wife and children in the very same square!
