My interpretation of ‘summer’? A warm sunday morning on Ipanema beach.
Several agua de coco’s later, we walked on to the Feira Hippie de Ipanema – the weekly fair on Praça General Osório nearby – and then all the way to Lagoa, stopping en-route to pick up Bossa Nova CD’s and grazing on shrimp and vegetable empadas and fresh suco.
Ending with a short taxi ride to the beautiful Parque Lage for dessert and coffee.
A perfect Sunday!
I love your pictures, thanks for sharing!
Hi Madhu, I stumbled upon this blog while surfing on WordPress. I fell in love with Rio when I visited last year; therefore, I looked up this post to see what you had to say about it. The above picture invoked pleasant memories for me. Thank you.
Mountains, cityscape, beach and people. What a great scene! LOL @ tita buds.
Impressive isn’t it? Tita is always a delight 🙂
Just set a new travel theme challenge http://wheresmybackpack.com/2012/05/25/street-markets/ I’d love you to join in, if you have the time! Pass it on, everyone’s welcome 🙂 xxx Ailsa
Let me see what I can come up with Ailsa. The summer challenge IS wierd 🙂
I laughed out loud when I saw it, couldn’t quite believe the coincidence! Looking forward to your post! xxx
What a perfect Sunday, indeed! And another gorgeous snapshot!
Thank you Zoe 🙂
Stunning post 🙂
Thank you Jake.
You couldn’t do much better than that, Madhu. It’s the mountains, as you say, that elevates it from just a great beach to the iconic beach. Wonderful shot:)
Thank you. I didn’t have to do much really! It was an amazing sight, even if a tad overcrowded!
Hi there! I think your blog is wonderful, and have nominated you for both the Very Inspiring Blog Award and the One Lovely Blog Award. The details are in my post here: http://zenandgenki.com/2012/05/22/inspired-and-lovely-2-new-awards-and-fireworks/
If you’d like to accept these awards, that’s great! Congratulations! If you’d rather not, no worries – just know that I think you have a terrific site. Thank you for making it such a pleasure to visit 🙂
Anne
Oh Anne, thank you so much for the nomination, and for your kind words! Always a pleasure to have you over 🙂
Oh, that looks h-e-a-v-e-n-l-y!!!
anne
It does, although a tad overcrowded 🙂 Thanks Anne
Love all the red beach umbrellas!!!
So do I 🙂
dear Madhu,
often I tried to play THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA on my guitar
(together with a saxophone)
– but much better it would be:
to be there and make photos …
😉 Perhaps play the song in the bar it was written in?
Beautiful.
Thank you!
This shot has a little bit of it all. It would be a wonderful take for a vacation brochure The whole scene makes me want to hit the beach! 🙂 I love the mountains and the villas in the background to round things out.
That is the magic of the Rio landscape! Thanks Marcy.
Great photo, and it sounds like you had a fabulous day all around.
Thanks Angeline.
Lovely; albeit crowded! 🙂
Too crowded for us too Eliz. We much preferred walking around the streets inland towards the lake. The area is lovely though. Google panorama has virtual walkabouts all over Rio, that are amazing!
A perfect Summer treat. A beach full of fun and excitement!
Oh yea! You can’t beat this beach for fun and excitement 🙂
Cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday, Madhu. Great shot, I love those dramatic mountains in the background too, makes me want to grab my backpack and go exploring! Thanks for joining in the challenge! xxx Ailsa
Thanks Ailsa. Looks like your challenge is here to stay! Good for you!
Thanks Madhu 🙂
Looks lovely. Nice and warm.
Definitely warm 🙂 Thanks for the visit Jane.
Hi,
Looks like a lovely place, a great photo. At first you see the beach, then your eye is drawn to the city, and then those gorgeous mountains in the background, very nice. 🙂
Can’t possibly take credit for that now, can I? But thank you sweet Mags for your generous support!
I would LOVE to go there someday! Thanks for sharing Madhu!
You are most welcome 🙂
Beautiful
Thanks Darkjade 🙂
Great image! I used to live 2 blocks from this beach. I was only a child but I do remember it. I will have to make it a point to go back soon. Thanks for the memories.
How wonderful to be able to live there Susan! Happy to have stirred fond memories.
I love the contrast between the buildings and the natural landscape.
Strange isn’t it? But in Rio it some how works!
Great photo, Madhu. I love contrast between the natural blue and the red umbrellas.
Thanks Naomi. Isn’t the red gorgeous? Love it too!
Was the view as good as they say? (And I’m not talking about the landscape, Madhu, not the landscape, haha!)
Quite! Topless is frowned upon, but you get to see excessive butt 🙂
Why? The previous is much more attractive than the second.
No clue. Too catholic and conservative we were told. Wouldn’t have thought, looking at the invisible thongs on the rather generous bottoms! The guys were ogleworthy though 😀
Oh, good to see your smile again. One of the excitements of visiting your site is surprise; we’re lifted into some far-flung destination, and then charmed with a story. Impressive.
Thank you Whitt.
You picture invites me to join the people. It’s been almost 20 years since I’ve been to something like this and now I’m determined to find a beach with the relaxing feel warm sand and sea along with the soothing sounds of waves and birds. It’s now on my list of things to do this year
Might be just the thing for you Mona! Go find that beach….now.
I just contacted my friend in California & proposed a 3 day mini-vacation with her when school is out.
Wonderful Mona! Have a blast!
Love the mountainous crags at the end of that beach. Great photo!
That undulating landscape is what makes Rio so breattakingly beautiful!
Have you heard of the song, The Girl From Ipanema? Now I know what all the fuss was about. What a beautiful photograph, Madhu.
Yes! Bar Garota de Ipanema where Tom Jobim and Vinicius de Moraes supposedly wrote the lyrics was one of the stops on that walk 🙂
How wonderful!
Thanks for the visit and comment Ledia!
You are so very welcome, Madhu.
Wow Madhu, I was really not expecting a post on Brazil! Is there a place you haven’t been to apart from Laos? 😛
Funny 🙂
This is what I expected to see when we visited Rio in July, a few years ago, but the beach was deserted, except for a few young men playing football. I wondered why, and was really disappointed.
You need to go on a Sunday morning AD 🙂
AD, would you know why Sonel hasn’t been posting lately? Her site seems to have been deleted!
I also was wondering where she is. Today,I realised that she must have deleted her blog, as the awards she gave me, suddenly disappeared from my sidebar, and I had to upload the pics from a different source. She used to be on Letterdash blogs, but deleted her blog there and then came over to WordPress. It seems she’s gone again.
Rather worrying isn’t it? Hope all is well with her.
July – iat’s the middle of winter:)
Like your shot, its awesome! =)
Thank you 🙂
