These should have been in my superstition gallery. And certainly not under the harmless old wives tale category, considering the number of creatures that have had to give up their lives for someone’s imagined increase in libido. R was informed by our boatman, that the contents of one of the jars was elephant penis!
Not sexy.
Glass jars of snake, scorpion and other animal organ wine, in a weaving village near Luang Prabang!

Ugh! Too adventurous and scary for my tastes. 🙂
Think I see your reflection in that jar 🙂
Japanese has a lot of the snake ones! I tried a sip two weeks ago. 😀
It just makes me chuckle –what men won’t do to try to be young and virile. If I knew my man was partaking of something like this, it would completely turn me off and make the contents irrelevant.
Is it similar to wine sold on Buy-snake-wine shop ? I already bought this one on this store delivered to US) and would like different wine if your know where? Thanks.
Perfect entry for the theme, Madhu!
Great image for this challenge! I cannot imagine that anyone actually drinks this stuff…yuck!
Those poor elephants . . .
Amazing and good learning. Thanks Madhu
Yes, shame on these people with their superstitions and beliefs Madhu. It always makes me sad to see images like this where these poor animals have to give up their lives because humans think they have ‘magic properties’. Great shots though and thanks for sharing hon. 😀 *big hugs*
talking of lesser evil, better to drink this wine (if you have to) than drinking copi luwak (of Indonesia) which i hear is ridiculously expensive but is prepared from the seeds that come from the other end of a cat! Yuk. as for the lives of these poor creatures, they die any way and now they should thank for preservation of their corps.
yummm
I wish you a great week!
Have a look at my new blog entry.

Very interesting …. entry – love you angle of the challenge … but I don’t know if I enjoy the inside of those jars. *smile
Strong beliefs moves mountains – I think Viagra will work better.
snake, scorpion and other animal organ wine – I would prefer to drink tea.
Excellent captured photos, Madhu – I had never understand why we humen (mostly men) think we become better men – by eating penises of other animals… ??? 😉
By the way there is a penis museum in Reykjavik, Iceland
– it is not permissible to eat the exhibited crown jewels… 😉

Oh dear! Where is the elephant p. jar? I am so curious!
oh no!
Let’s hope the next generation in SE Asia comes to realize that our world will be a much poorer place without elephants, rhinos, tigers and others. The only hope for these animals is a new way of thinking in that part of the world.
Great interpretation of the theme, Madhu!
Inside they are…yes. But, it makes me sad looking at them…
Sad that these and other animal parts (rhinoceros horn, elephant tusk) are considered to have aphrodisiac properties. You’d nowadays people would know better…
Fabulous capture Madu!
Funny choice for the theme, Madhu! 😀
Spectacular photos. Does just go to show how far some will go for virility.
Interesting! But… ewwww.
OH MY! Knew you wouldn’t disappoint.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED
Elephant penis… definitely not sexy. I don’t mean to come across as western-centric or anything, but I’d definitely be looking towards the viagra first.
What a threat to the blue pill 🙂
I was feeling a little peckish after perusing the many photos of sandwiches posted on this week’s photo challenge theme, now not so much… although I love the colours in your photos and the shape of the wonderful glass jars 🙂
Thank you for an interesting nugget of information, the things we human do!!!!
History taught the Western world to look to the East for spices. Once again, it is discovering an amazing, exotic, mystifying Eastern world and culture. There is so much to understand and learn from Asia. This is a nice post!
🙂 This did come with a certain ammount of goosbumps for me…and not because of how nice the photos look…
I think visiting other countries is so interesting. Vietnam has some spectacular scenery and interesting food. I think I’ll give those bottled tasty’s a pass though. The EP would be one tough meal and would need a powerful curry.
Triple ugh!
The photos are unique, but it’s sad that any animal’s lives were sacrificed for these potions and superstitions.
Wow, this is something and I can’t imagine drinking any of it! But your photos are awesome!
Definitely inside pics, Madhu. We were offered snake wine on board our Li River cruise. I declined, but some of the braver passengers did try it. 🙂
They wouldn’t be for sale if people didn’t buy them. It just goes to show you people are interesting and entertaining everywhere. Great post, Madhu. Take care. -Max-
Oh my. Your photographs are unique and intriguing. In fact, the entire post topic! Made me wonder about the smell when you open the jars!
Bleh! Definitely not sexy … but quite fascinating …
and I am speechless, the thought of so many creatures all over the planet losing their lives for these potions and superstitions, like sharks being finned … whoops, getting a bit dark here … when we were in Laos we did not see a bird, the guide explained they had all been shot for food …
I feel rather queasy- not the usual effect of your posts on me. 🙂
😆
Oh wow!
like it
Oh my lord – creeping me out!! Did you see anyone drink any?
No, thank heavens 😀
ROFL! do people actually drink it? or rub it in? or??? 🙂
😆 Its wine Gilly, of course they drink it!
I can’t say that I’m upset that we missed this collection of virility on tap while in LP.
Ron did taste some snake wine in Vietnam. It was worth seeing his face afterwards. 🙂 Great take on the challenge.
Phew! I had a hard time with this one. I have a “thing” about snakes.
Wow!
Did you taste some of this stuff? 🙂
Ewww NO!!!
Ja ja ja!!!! 🙂 I think one must feel very depressed to try one of those things!!!! Great post Madhu!!!
I couldn’t wait to see what you posted and I was not let down! Wonderful !
WONDERFUL….
I’m sending you lots of light
Sincerely Andrea
