Architectural Reflections

I was surprised by how many architectural marvels I photographed last year, mirrored in reflection pools…….at least one from each of our 2013 destinations! You have seen the Paris reflections one too many times, so here are the rest, all from India:

The Victoria Memorial, Kolkata Victoria Memorial, Kolkata

Humayun’s Tomb, New DelhiHumayun's Tomb - Delhi, India

The Taj Mahal, AgraTaj Mahal, Agra

Chota Imambara, LucknowChota Imambara, Lucknow

Until next time…happy travels no matter where life takes you.

    1. Many thanks Meredith. To suddenly come upon all that symmetrical perfection mirrored, is always a stunning surprise, even when I know the pools are there for a reason! Those arcitects sure knew how to impress ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. All wonderful, but the Lucknow shows an interesting building I haven’t seen before! It’s different in style.

    1. It is. It is newer as well. I have yet to chronicle Lucknow….got sidetracked by Kolkata. Thanks Ann Christine.

    1. Strange that you haven’t Gilly, the VM – along with the Howrah bridge – are iconic symbols of Calcutta.

    1. Thank you Popof. They are all amazing structures, and their reflections only double our viewing pleasure ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hard to pick a favourite but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a better shot of the Taj, Madhu. Humayun’s for second. Phew! Decision making’s hard work ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I think it is soooooo cool that you unwittingly ended up with a collection of these. Amazing, Madhu! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. These are superbly photographed, Madhu. Such gloriously muted colors and tones. The reflections are beautiful. Reflections are always my favorites, but these are perfect. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I always marvel at the beauty your heart captures through your lens…it is all reflective of what truly lives inside your spirit dear sister! All of your pictures have been priceless to me with every post you share, and one day I will write a poem to go along with some of them, if you would allow me to! Have a very blessed weekend Madhu!

  6. a credit to India that these magnificent buildings are being preserved and cared for, stunning photos Madhu, while I am familiar with the Taj, the others are fresh delights to ponder on, especially grouped together like this ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Haha I was just thinking about your Louvre photos and thinking that they would have been perfect for this week’s challenge too. I love the Humayun’s Tomb image. It’s a pity I didn’t visit this monument more than once, despite growing up in Delhi.

  8. I can’t resist taking photos of architectural reflections either. ๐Ÿ™‚ A pool always makes a grand monument even more beautiful. Nice photos, Madhu!

  9. I’ve never seen these so for me it’s a new and exciting series of photos to view. The Victoria Memorial with its perfectly croppped tree looks magical. Great โ€ฆ Great โ€ฆ Great !!!!
    ~~~~ : – )
  10. Hi Madhu … every one of these shots is magnificent, especially Humayun’s tomb! Thanks for the wiki link, btw … I learned a lot about this awesome structure and its history. What cool architecture!
  11. You have been to some fascinating places Madhu, and have done a wonderful job of capturing their beauty. ๐Ÿ™‚
  12. Absolutely stunning. I could not pick a favorite if I tried. I only say to you, I wish to walk in your footsteps with my camera and could only hope to do a quarter as well.
  13. The photographs are truly awesome. But may be you could have tried different angles. All in the same angle, stacked together, seems to take the beauty a lil away. Anyway beautiful photographs and marvelous architecture.
    1. Thank you Sandhya. Appreciate your feedback. I prefer unusual angles myself, but reflections in these instances do not work as well from other angles, since the pools are small and directly in front of the monuments (except in the case of Victoria memorial which is why it isn’t a frontal view) You will find plenty different angles of the Taj and Humayun’s tomb, if you click on the links that lead to my posts on them.
  14. Gorgeous captures, Madhu! There is just something magical about pairing beautiful buildings with still pools of water… you and R must have risen incredibly early to miss the crowds at the Taj and Humayun’s Tomb!
  15. As soon as I read Lucknow in the beginning I knew under reflection theme one of the pic has to be chhota imambara. And obviously in India one choice is Taj Mahal.
    lovely pics.
  16. Beautiful architure shots, Madhu! It’s amazing you could find the Humayun’s Tomb so empty. Normally it is teeming with visitors ๐Ÿ™‚
  17. Amazing photos, Madhu. What a coincidence that we both posted reflection(s) from India for this week’s Photo Challenge. I choosed a photo from the Golden Temple in Amritsar by day and photos from Singapore at night. Btw, I really like your new Blog Theme, I saw that you changed it a while ago.
  18. Oh wow! These are absolutely stunning shots and reflections Madhu! I just love them all! ๐Ÿ˜€
  19. The reflections
    in India are superb. Thanks for stopping by Manu. Long time no see!You have quite a following now. Congratulations. Your posts remind me of how much I lived India.
  20. They are all lovely but the Taj Mahal really does stop you in your tracks. I visited many years ago and would love to go back one day.
Let me know what you think
