To me, Venice is in itself a work of art.
Today, I showcase some delightful window displays from the magical city…from chocolate art to carnivale masks. All but the first, shot through glass. Hope you like them as much I did discovering them.

Happy travels…no matter where life takes you.
They are exquisitely beautiful, especially the masks. As for the chocolates – I think it is utterly wrong to turn them into little visual arts. How could anyone eat them without guilt now? (ooop, as if, chocolate can be eaten without guilt, just sayin’.) 🙂
It was closing time when I got there and I never went back, so I can’t really vouch for the taste…..but I agree, it is hard to bite into ‘art’ 🙂
The mask is quite eye catching.
Isn’t it? There were hundreds of mask shops, but this one was one of the classier ones.
Love Venice – great post! White chocolate Hello Kitty! 🙂
Yes! And an antique iron and weights!! Thank you Vanillarock 🙂
I totally agree Venice is in itself a work of art 🙂
Glad you do 🙂 Thank you for your visit and comment.
You are welcome! 🙂
Work of art and the most magical city in the world (that I have seen).
Mine too! 🙂
these are just gorgeous Madhu
Means a lot coming from you Jo! I am more chronicler than a true photographer 🙂
Beautiful pictures!!
Thank you Audrey.
Lovely little works of art…lovely Venice.
And you are going there again soon aren’t you? Very envious Debra! 🙂
Impressive and very fascinating… 🙂
Ah, thank you LeDrake! 🙂
Beautiful pictures highlighting the inspiring skills of Venezia 🙂 I remember the short boat ride to see the ancient Murano glassware made on the Venetian Island of Murano.
Thanks Madhu for reviving some pleasant memories of this exotic place.
Thank you Dilip. I still have a vase from Murano from our visit decades ago. Sadly one has to be careful to check for the Made in Murano marking when picking up a piece today, for the shops are flooded with cheap Chinese made glass!
You take such great pictures. I always love reading your posts. 🙂
Thanks David. I love your stories too, even if I don’t get to read all of them 🙂
That’s fine, I have a hard time keeping up with my blog reading too. I’m just honored you read them at all. 🙂
Ahh those masks, I saw them in Sicily, Did you buy one? And the chocolate, I would probably keep it until I had a desperate craving than eat it in one hit!
No Gilly, I just picked up two little glass wine stoppers. I didn’t taste any chocolate from this shop either since it was closed, but I did get to a fantastic atelier that I have no pictures of because i was drooling over his stuff or eating or both and just forgot!! 🙂
Venice is always a new discovery… A lovely place to visit during all year (but in sommer can be hot and muggy). Have a lovely week end :-)claudine
It is. Do you live close by Claudine? I should have mailed you before I went.
Yes, around 4 hours by train… which is the simplest way to get there… Pity indeed that we didn’t have the chance to meet in Venice! Big hugs :-)claudine
I’d have taken out a second mortgage & bought them all!
I would have done the same a few years ago Dallas 🙂 Now we are on a ‘de-cluttering’ spree, so we have stopped shopping on our travels except for a CD or two of local music!
I am agog, staring at the masks with lust in my heart. Beautiful. I was taken immediately by the lamps though, I have always loved these types of lamps for some reason and my mind immediately slipped to the glassblowers of Venice. As for the chocolate, it may be art, but only till I bite it, my love of chocolate will always win. Thank you once again for your wonderful contribution to my vicarious life through you! 🙂
The glass lamps are my favourites. And I am the same with chocolate, although in my experience the artfully sculpted ones aren’t always the finest in taste. Thank you for your lovely comment Valentine 🙂
I love those carnaval masks too – they are so elaborate looking.
Venice is paradise for mask lovers Colline. And this was one of the classier shops that had me riveted to its window display! 🙂
Sumptuous…
Yes, that about sums up my experience 🙂
Venice is so filled with art! I’d buy so many masks if I knew how to get them home in one piece! The lace there is beautiful too. Great blog post!
Thank you for stopping by to share your thoughts Evie. Happy to ‘meet’ you 🙂
The photos are stunning! I love them.
Thank you
Thank you Maxine
Great choices for the challenge, Madhu …art through glass! Beautiful! 🙂
Thank you Marina. Malls exhaust me, but I love this kind of window shopping! 🙂
No way I could eat that edible art. Beautiful, Madhu. Love your photos.
Thank you Judy. The shop was closed so I didn’t get an opportunity to test myself! 🙂
Gorgeous set of pictures!
Thank you for the visit and comment Anu.
Shooting through the glass didn’t detract from the gorgeous images you captured Madhu!
Nice.
Thank you Ruth. The size of those alleys were greater challenges than the glass fronts! 🙂
I’m not into chocolates – but the masks look edible 🙂
An edible mask…now wouldn’t that be a great gift! You should be in advertising Eric 🙂
Lovely set of pictures…
Thank you very much Nihar. And welcome to my blog! 🙂
I think we are going to have trouble enticing you back home again. lol
I am back Ian, but I think R is beginning to worry I might make a habit of this 😀
Stunning works of art Madhu! Great shots! 😀
Thank you Sonel 🙂
This is window shopping at its finest, Madhu! And I’m blown away by the sheer detail of those chocolate masterpieces… I doubt that I would ever have the heart to consume and gobble them up!
I was blown away by the chocolate art as well! The model of the priest was exquisite and that antique iron looked so real and rusty! Thanks James.
Exquisite!
Thank you Ann Christine 🙂
Friends who have visited Italy and know of my passion for art and beautiful things, tell me that the country was ‘made for me’ 🙂 Lovely pictures, Madhu, and am so happy for your solo experience.
However, I certainly wouldn’t permit chocolate-lovers to eat Padre Pio!!!
Is that who he is? It is the padre that grabbed my attention in the first place….even the details on his garment were so exquisitely crafted! Thank you for the kind words Ashu.
Such fun you had in Venice, Madhu! The second shot is exquisite. Lighted windows and the mystery of it all. I love it 🙂
I love that one too Jo, especially for its aura of mystery. Wish I could make the price tag across her nose go away though 🙂
I love the masks and hope one day to see this grand city for myself. 🙂
Thank you Luann.
Love them all for the challenge, the mask is gorgeous.
Thank you Mary. I would love to see that interpreted on canvas by you! 🙂
Thanks Madu!
I LOVE masks! They provide emotional shelter and encourage spontaneity !
I love the romance and mystery they evoke, but I find them sinister somehow Kathryn! 🙂
Some masks are intentionally sinister I agree but many more are fun! I always think about posting a challenge requesting people in masks! I think I only have one personally!
I don’t own any other than that bronze Bhuta mask!! 😀
It’s a beauty !
Fascinating works of art. And I agree with you, the city is itself one. I came across this video shared by a fellow-blogger, which made me appreciate the science and hard work behind this work of art. Check it out- http://shootingveniceandberlin.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/32/#comment-299
Thanks Kan. And what a co-incidence that you should mention that site! Bruno connected with me after reading my “Moving in Venice’ post!!! Wish I had known him before I went 😦
Did you treat yourself to some of these chocolates? The shuttered shop window is my favourite photo here.
No, it was closedand I never ventured back there again. The shuttered window is my favourite too Paula.
