I was determined to post something today. Even if I could only manage to lift my head up long enough to click ‘publish’. Battling a nasty virus, stuffy nose, swollen throat, fever, et al. And the grey, gloomy, drippy weather isn’t helping any.
Seems like only the other day that we were pining for rain…..for a respite from the torridity. But I hate the rain. Well not rain exactly, but rain in Chennai. Rumi would certainly have an enlightened couplet about the ingratitude of the human species. But I still hate rain in Chennai.
Especially when our drains get choked and the roads overflow with rain water mixed with God knows what! My OCD kicks in full pelt in this weather, and my worst phobia is of getting stuck on a flooded street. I have told R that if my car ever stalls during a downpour, I shall climb up on to the roof and wait for a truck driver to rescue me ‘filmi style’ as they say here. No way am I wading through that slush!
Am I rambling? I am. Time for my medication.
This post was supposed to take my mind off of all of this and bring you some smiles. Hope it does 🙂
A tad presumptuous from an Indian, but you have to agree funny is funny 🙂

Reading this post made me chuckle. 🙂 Although not nearly as prominent as Japan, we have a number of these here in Hong Kong. I once spotted someone with a shirt that read “zxcvjzvzkezjgzxsdg” in a metro station – my brother and couldn’t help snickering!
What a shame to hear you’re under the weather… get well soon and have plenty of rest!
Thank you James.
We have loads here as well, but somehow I am not as trigger happy at home 🙂 In fact I wondered for a moment whether that shop with the ‘Pinky’ sign was owned by a Punjabi 😀
Ha haha very good and well spotted they are so funny! Hope you soon feel better Madhu 🙂
Thank you Gilly. It was fun being on the lookout for them 😀
They did bring smiles, Madhu, but not as broad – or as lingering – as the smile I’ve still got on my face imaging you sitting crossed legged on the roof of your car, waiting for a suitably high riding trucker to reach down and pluck you to safety 🙂
R laughed too, but I was dead serious 😀
PS Kick that virus! I hate that, when you pick up some dastardly germ on the plane coming back home 😦
Feeling much better, thank you Meredith 🙂
HI Madhu, I hope you feel better soon!
I do this morning. Thank you Naomi.
This has made me smile! Hope you are better soon.
Delighted! And yes I am a lot better today, thank you so much 🙂
Lovely shots – hope you’ll feel better soon… 🙂
Thank you Ledrake, I already do 🙂
Hey Madhu, get into bed with a hot drink and put ure feet up! I hate it when it rains in India, roads get clogged, drains over flooded and everything comes to a standstill- same in Hyderabad. The weather here in England is just as gloomy, hasn’t stopped raining since we got back from Japan, grey clouds all day and cold foggy mornings, so bloody depressing, I need to go visit my daughter in the Caribbean right now! Get better soon.
That rant seems to have helped clear my head and the weather!! Thank you Shanthi, enjoy your time with your daughter.
This post made me smile too. I hope you had a a great trip. And just like you, I too hate rain in Chennai specially when I have to walk through the streets, full of water and mud. 🙂
Awful isn’t it? Glad you found this funny. Some of our local signs are equally funny, shall have to walk around with a camera more often 🙂
nice pictures of these shopping stores
Glad you liked them Noel 🙂
Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. Your photos made me smile.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Much better now, thank you Francine 🙂
The thought of Apple Pie Milk Tea is making me feel a little sick.
Hope you feel better!
Yes, we contemplated ordering one, but chickened out 😀
When it rains in Jakarta, it means one thing: even worse traffic jam. I only love rain when I’m inside my house because it always brings a peaceful ambiance. Hope you get well soon, Madhu!
Much better Bama, thank you.
Heard Bangkok floods very much like here. Monsoons on the West coast – in Kerala, Goa and Mangalore – are quite picturesque actually. The hilly terrain and red soil allows the rain to flow off quickly without flooding. Here the land is flat and soil clayey and drainage non existent, quite surprised it isn’t worse!!
Feel better soon. 🙂
Thank you Boomie. Hope you are feeling better too 🙂
Thanks for the smiles, Madhu. Get well soon. 🙂
Thank you AD. The rant seems to have helped a bit 🙂
Your photos put a smile on my face Madhu, now get better. 🙂
Glad they did and thank you LuAnn 🙂
Enjoy some tea and sleep and feel better soon 🙂
Thank you Judy. I slept nearly all of yesterday afternoon!
I’m rushing round with a hot toddy right now! Oh no, I can’t- it’s raining!
Get well soon.
Just talk of the hot toddy seems to have helped Jo 🙂 Thank you for the kind thoughts.
You made me laugh haha. Get well soon! Been busy lately so need to catch up with your latest posts. Loved this one!
Thank you. Look forward to seeing you back here and to catching up with your posts.
Get well soon, young lady. Great post, by the way…
Ah, wish I were – young I mean 🙂 Thank you so much Hook.
I returned to work today – out sick one day – and I still had laryngitis and a stuffy nose. A flu bug is making its way thru our area. Hope you’re feeling much better by now.
Much better now thank you Judy 🙂
Do get rest and get well soon, Madhu! We can’t use some rain here…
It never rains when you want it to right 🙂 Thank you Amy
Aye Haye Madhu beenar hay – not good ! Speedy recovery to you my friend !
As for the post – sure made me chuckle !! Yes, I can imagine the torrential rains in Chennai – reminded me of my days in Africa! Uff ! And, certainly you shall be rescued through the heli-pad from your car roof !!! Lol.
Feel well Madhu – how about a few shots of brandy ya cognac ! Too good I am na?! Cheers to you (of cos, and it’s my bday – so, drink is on you !!)
Ooops correction “beemar” – typo !
A shot of brandy with hot water, lime and pepper sounds like just what I need! Shall drink to your health and happiness Mashaal…many happy returns of the day 🙂
I’m sorry you are “under the weather.” Even in your foggy state you managed to turn out a very entertaining post. Hope you are feeling better soon!
You are kind Elisa 🙂 Feeling a lot better today, thank you.
Hope you feel better soon… The weather here is also changing, so everyone is under the weather! Interesting signs 🙂 You know, I wouldn’t mind trying that tea… It could be that something was lost in translation 😀
Perhaps. It is probably tea flavoured apple pie in a cup (still yuck)! None of the possibilities sounded exciting Kasturika 🙂
Yes, I chuckled. Seeing you on the roof top would be a photo op for someone. Better spend rainy days at home or in the mall taking photos of crazy signs. Bounce back quickly. Lingering colds are no fun.
Feeling better by the day Lynne, thank you 🙂
My kids and I loved these odd mall ads and took pictures of them… You did a much better job of it. 😆
Thanks Eliz. My travel mates caught on and started pointing them out to me. R thought the header image from a boutique was a Momo shop 😀
Love the Lipstar and hope you are feeling better now!
A cute post, the content and the sudden shift on your focus. I wouldn’t have expected you posting this.
Ha ha ha..This post made me to laugh. It seems I am very late to comment:)
Yup! Unfunny – the rain in Chennai. Funny – the signs. Presumptuous – us Indians, but admit it, we are like that only!
Mind it!!! 😀
Oh yeah! that one…. ha! ha! THAT is soooo Indian. ha! ha! great work Madhu. The aam aadmi (mango man) touch.
No!!! The Rajni touch….I couldn’t possibly forget that! 😀
These ARE funny, Madhu 🙂 Thank you for sharing them with us 🙂
The signs are hilarious. We are always stumbling upon signs that make us chuckle in Chennai but not in up market places. I once saw a ‘crap-fry’ in a sea-food eatery menu in Mahabs.
Now that would have been the perfect shot for this challenge 😆
Sorry you are under the weather (pun intended) Get well soon.
Oh, this was from last November Gulsum, but thanks anyway 🙂
Thought this summer began way better than usual, but the past few days have been horribly muggy don’t you think?
