As Know As Pinky!!!

I was determined to post something today. Even if I could only manage to lift my head up long enough to click ‘publish’.Β Battling a nasty virus, stuffy nose, swollen throat, fever, et al. And the grey, gloomy, drippy weather isn’t helping any.

Seems like only the other day that we were pining for rain…..for a respite from the torridity. But I hate the rain. Well not rain exactly, but rain in Chennai. Rumi would certainly have an enlightened couplet about the ingratitude of the human species. But I still hate rain in Chennai.

Especially when our drains get choked and the roads overflow with rain water mixed with God knows what! My OCD kicks in full pelt in this weather, and my worst phobia is of getting stuck on a flooded street. I have told R that if my car ever stalls during a downpour, I shall climb up on to the roof and wait for a truck driver to rescue me ‘filmi style’ as they say here. No way am I wading through that slush!

Am I rambling? I am. Time for my medication.

This post was supposed to take my mind off of all of this and bring you some smiles. Hope it does πŸ™‚

A tad presumptuous from an Indian, but you have to agree funny is funny πŸ™‚

  1. Reading this post made me chuckle. πŸ™‚ Although not nearly as prominent as Japan, we have a number of these here in Hong Kong. I once spotted someone with a shirt that read “zxcvjzvzkezjgzxsdg” in a metro station – my brother and couldn’t help snickering!

What a shame to hear you’re under the weather… get well soon and have plenty of rest!

    1. Thank you James.
We have loads here as well, but somehow I am not as trigger happy at home πŸ™‚ In fact I wondered for a moment whether that shop with the ‘Pinky’ sign was owned by a Punjabi πŸ˜€

  2. They did bring smiles, Madhu, but not as broad – or as lingering – as the smile I’ve still got on my face imaging you sitting crossed legged on the roof of your car, waiting for a suitably high riding trucker to reach down and pluck you to safety πŸ™‚

  3. Hey Madhu, get into bed with a hot drink and put ure feet up! I hate it when it rains in India, roads get clogged, drains over flooded and everything comes to a standstill- same in Hyderabad. The weather here in England is just as gloomy, hasn’t stopped raining since we got back from Japan, grey clouds all day and cold foggy mornings, so bloody depressing, I need to go visit my daughter in the Caribbean right now! Get better soon.

    1. That rant seems to have helped clear my head and the weather!! Thank you Shanthi, enjoy your time with your daughter.

  4. This post made me smile too. I hope you had a a great trip. And just like you, I too hate rain in Chennai specially when I have to walk through the streets, full of water and mud. πŸ™‚

    1. Awful isn’t it? Glad you found this funny. Some of our local signs are equally funny, shall have to walk around with a camera more often πŸ™‚

  5. Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you feel better soon. Your photos made me smile.

  6. When it rains in Jakarta, it means one thing: even worse traffic jam. I only love rain when I’m inside my house because it always brings a peaceful ambiance. Hope you get well soon, Madhu!

    1. Much better Bama, thank you.
Heard Bangkok floods very much like here. Monsoons on the West coast – in Kerala, Goa and Mangalore – are quite picturesque actually. The hilly terrain and red soil allows the rain to flow off quickly without flooding. Here the land is flat and soil clayey and drainage non existent, quite surprised it isn’t worse!!

  7. You made me laugh haha. Get well soon! Been busy lately so need to catch up with your latest posts. Loved this one!

  8. I returned to work today – out sick one day – and I still had laryngitis and a stuffy nose. A flu bug is making its way thru our area. Hope you’re feeling much better by now.

  9. Aye Haye Madhu beenar hay – not good ! Speedy recovery to you my friend !
As for the post – sure made me chuckle !! Yes, I can imagine the torrential rains in Chennai – reminded me of my days in Africa! Uff ! And, certainly you shall be rescued through the heli-pad from your car roof !!! Lol.
Feel well Madhu – how about a few shots of brandy ya cognac ! Too good I am na?! Cheers to you (of cos, and it’s my bday – so, drink is on you !!)

      1. A shot of brandy with hot water, lime and pepper sounds like just what I need! Shall drink to your health and happiness Mashaal…many happy returns of the day πŸ™‚

  10. I’m sorry you are “under the weather.” Even in your foggy state you managed to turn out a very entertaining post. Hope you are feeling better soon!

  11. Hope you feel better soon… The weather here is also changing, so everyone is under the weather! Interesting signs πŸ™‚ You know, I wouldn’t mind trying that tea… It could be that something was lost in translation πŸ˜€

    1. Perhaps. It is probably tea flavoured apple pie in a cup (still yuck)! None of the possibilities sounded exciting Kasturika πŸ™‚

  12. Yes, I chuckled. Seeing you on the roof top would be a photo op for someone. Better spend rainy days at home or in the mall taking photos of crazy signs. Bounce back quickly. Lingering colds are no fun.

  13. My kids and I loved these odd mall ads and took pictures of them… You did a much better job of it. πŸ˜†

    1. Thanks Eliz. My travel mates caught on and started pointing them out to me. R thought the header image from a boutique was a Momo shop πŸ˜€

  14. Yup! Unfunny – the rain in Chennai. Funny – the signs. Presumptuous – us Indians, but admit it, we are like that only!

      1. Oh yeah! that one…. ha! ha! THAT is soooo Indian. ha! ha! great work Madhu. The aam aadmi (mango man) touch.

    1. Oh, this was from last November Gulsum, but thanks anyway πŸ™‚
Thought this summer began way better than usual, but the past few days have been horribly muggy don’t you think?
